Why patients choose Invisalign

Clear, removable and designed around real life.

Invisalign treatment uses custom aligners that are worn in sequence, changed regularly and reviewed throughout treatment. It is a strong option for patients who want a discreet, digitally planned route to straighter teeth.

How It Works

Simple in concept. Precise in execution.

Treatment starts with an assessment, a custom digital plan and a series of aligners worn in sequence. Dr. Vik then adapts that framework into a more personalised, aesthetics-led journey.

1

Consultation and scan

We assess your smile, bite and goals, then use digital scans and photos to map out the right approach before any aligners are made.

2

Custom aligners

Your aligners are made specifically for your teeth. Each set is designed to make small planned movements as treatment progresses.

3

Wear and change

You wear the aligners for most of the day, remove them for meals and cleaning, and move to the next set at the right stage of the plan.

4

Refine and retain

Once the teeth are aligned, treatment may be refined and then retained so the final result stays stable and looks its best.

What To Expect

A few things that are part of the process.

Invisalign often works best as the first stage of a bigger plan. Along the way, there are a couple of routine steps that help the aligners do their job well.

Invisalign on its own

Often ideal if the main goal is straighter, more balanced teeth and the shape and colour already work well.

Clear aligners to improve alignment and bite position
Digital planning before treatment starts
Retention built in after treatment

As part of a smile makeover

Frequently the best route when straighter teeth are only the first step and the final result also needs brightening or cosmetic refinement.

Align first to improve positioning conservatively
Whiten once the teeth are where they should be
Finish with bonding or veneers only if needed

Attachments

Small tooth-coloured dots placed on certain teeth to give the aligner extra grip. They help guide more precise movements and are barely noticeable once in place.

Placed in minutes using a simple template
Tooth-coloured and very discreet
Removed cleanly at the end of treatment

IPR

A gentle polishing technique that creates a tiny amount of space between certain teeth. One of the most conservative ways to resolve crowding without removing any teeth.

Quick, painless and carefully planned
Helps teeth move into a more balanced position
A safe, well-established part of treatment

Common Questions

The things patients usually want to know first.

Is Invisalign just for mild cases?

No. Invisalign can treat a wide range of cases, from straightforward spacing and crowding to more involved bite issues including overbites, crossbites and open bites.

The key factor is not severity but suitability. Some complex cases respond very well to aligners, while some apparently simple cases may have biomechanical challenges. That is why a proper assessment with scans and photographs matters more than guessing from the outside.

Dr. Vik has treated over 200 Invisalign cases across a broad spectrum of complexity, including cases that were previously told they were not suitable for aligners.

How many hours a day do I need to wear them?

The standard guidance is 20 to 22 hours per day. In practice, that means the aligners should only be out for eating, drinking anything other than water, and brushing.

Consistent wear is the single biggest factor in keeping treatment on track. Taking them out for a few hours here and there may not feel significant, but it adds up and can slow tooth movement or cause the aligners to stop fitting properly.

If you find compliance difficult, that is worth discussing openly during a review — there are ways to adjust the plan, but only if the issue is flagged early.

Can I eat and drink with the aligners in?

No. Aligners must be removed for all meals and drinks other than plain water. Hot drinks can warp the plastic. Coloured drinks like tea, coffee or red wine can stain the trays. Eating with them in risks cracking the aligners and trapping food against the teeth.

After eating, brush or at least rinse your teeth before putting the aligners back in. This keeps both the aligners and your teeth clean and reduces the risk of cavities during treatment.

Does Invisalign hurt?

Most patients experience some pressure or tightness when they switch to a new set of aligners. This usually settles within 24 to 48 hours and is a sign that the teeth are responding to the planned movement.

It is not typically described as painful, but it can feel uncomfortable — particularly in the first day or two of a new tray. Some people find switching trays in the evening helpful so the initial tightness eases overnight.

How long does treatment take?

Treatment length depends on the complexity of the case. Mild crowding or spacing may take 4 to 6 months. More involved cases with bite correction can take 12 to 18 months or occasionally longer.

Dr. Vik will give you a realistic estimate during the consultation based on your specific plan. Refinement stages — where additional aligners are ordered to fine-tune the result — are common and should be expected as part of the process, not seen as a setback.

What are attachments and do I need them?

Attachments are small tooth-coloured composite bumps bonded to certain teeth. They give the aligner grip to perform more complex or precise movements like rotation, extrusion and root torque.

Most Invisalign cases include attachments. They are placed in minutes, do not damage the teeth, and are removed cleanly once treatment is complete. You can read more about them in the Attachments and IPR section above.

Will I need retainers afterwards?

Yes — always. Teeth have a natural tendency to drift back toward their original position, especially in the first year after treatment. Retainers are what keep the result stable.

Dr. Vik typically recommends a combination of fixed retainers (a thin wire bonded behind the front teeth) and removable retainers worn at night. The removable retainer looks and feels very similar to an Invisalign tray.

Retention is not optional. It is the most important part of the process if you want the result to last.

Can I combine Invisalign with whitening or bonding?

Yes, and this is one of the most common treatment sequences. Straightening the teeth first often reduces the amount of cosmetic work needed afterwards, because properly aligned teeth already look better and more even.

After Invisalign, many patients whiten their teeth and then decide whether bonding or veneers are needed at all. In some cases, alignment alone is enough. In others, a small amount of cosmetic refinement finishes the job beautifully.

How much does Invisalign cost?

The cost depends on the complexity and length of treatment. Simple alignment cases will generally cost less than comprehensive plans involving bite correction and multiple refinement stages.

Dr. Vik provides a clear treatment fee during the consultation once the plan has been discussed. There are no hidden charges and finance options are available. The fee typically includes all aligners, attachments, refinements and retainers.

What happens if an aligner does not fit properly?

This can happen and it is not unusual. Sometimes a tooth does not track exactly as planned, which means the next aligner may feel loose or not seat fully. If you notice a gap between the aligner and a tooth, it is worth flagging it early.

Dr. Vik monitors tracking at every review. If needed, the plan can be adjusted with new scans and a revised set of aligners. This is a normal part of Invisalign treatment and part of why regular check-ins matter.
